Coastal Mississippi Public Art

All along the Mississippi Gulf Coast there is art wherever you look. The natural setting (beach, sand, blue sky, magnificent oak trees, bayous), public art, street art, art galleries, eclectic architecture, and more.

First stop on this visual Mississippi coast tour is Fishbone Alley in Gulfport.

Ruth’s Roots in Bay St Louis is one of my favorite Coastal Mississippi spots. I love this community garden gathering area.

Angel oaks can be found throughout Bay St Louis. Many were created from oak trees damaged or destroyed from hurrican Katrina.

Driving along the Mississippi Gulf Coast Scenic Highway, you may have noticed the funky silver buildings a little west of Margaritaville Biloxi. The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art celebrates George Ohr, the Mad Potter of Biloxi.

I adore that residents in Ocean Springs are serious about creating art, no matter what the talent level.

The Ocean Springs community center is a masterpiece created by Walter Anderson. I could spend hours looking at these walls and his interpretation of Mississippi Gulf Coast history. The center is connected to the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, for an in-depth look at his life and work.

Heading to Pascagoula, native son and maybe the most famous person from Coastal Mississippi, Jimmy Buffett has a beach named after him. Along Buffett Beach is Buffett Bridge crossing a small bayou that he mentioned in song.
